Consequently, one side of the module is cooled while the other is simultaneously heated. Notably, this phenomenon can be reversed: changing the polarity (positive or negative) of the applied DC voltage causes heat to move in the opposite direction. Therefore, thermoelectric modules can be used for both heating and cooling, making them ideal for precise temperature control applications. They can also be used for power generation. In this mode, a temperature differential across the module generates an electric current. Practical thermoelectric modules typically consist of two or more elements of n-type and p-type doped semiconductor materials, connected electrically in series and thermally in parallel. These thermoelectric elements and their electrical connections are typically mounted between two ceramic substrates.
